I'm honored to take you through my step-by-step<br /> drawing and painting process. I felt a lot<br /> of pressure and tension while working on this.<br /> I was redrawing again and again until I was<br /> happy with it and finally I completed it.<br /> When I create a watercolor, I try to express<br /> accidental beauty that can not be expressed<br /> intentionally with human hands.<br /> First, I try to find some good photos on the<br /> internet. After looking at many different facial<br /> expressions and hairstyles, I choose the ones<br /> I think best represent the subject, in this case<br /> singer, songwriter and actress Rihanna.<br /> <br /> 2. I start off with a sketch from many different photos.<br /> When I finish that, I redraw that same sketch on another<br /> piece of paper and try to color test. I decide what<br /> color I want to use and where I want to put it.<br /> <br /> 3. When I complete the pencil sketch, I lighten and<br /> clean up the lines with an eraser.<br /> <br /> 4. Next, I paint the skin tones. I start with water only,<br /> then use watercolor (brown). The shadow part<br /> usually contains lots of brown. Sometimes I use<br /> red for an accent<br /> <br /> 5. Next, I paint water on the hair area and drop<br /> in colored ink (black, brown, and red). I keep<br /> painting until I like the way it looks. Sometimes I<br /> move the paper diagonally to help the ink flow.<br /> <br /> 6. Now I draw the details of the face...nose, eyes, mouth…<br /> while keeping the paper steady. I draw with a light color,<br /> in case I decide to l change it later. When I am satisfied<br /> with the likeness, I define the details a bit more. Occasionally<br /> I draw the shadow parts. It’s important for me<br /> to keep in mind the balance of the whole piece.<br /> <br /> 7. Now it’s time to draw the eyeballs and<br /> eyebrows. These elements of the face are<br /> very important to the overall piece, so I draw<br /> them with great care.<br /> <br /> 8. I lightly render the accessories. And I draw<br /> individual strands of hair with a thin brush to<br /> express the hair volume. Sometimes I use red<br /> as an accent color, along with black.<br /> <br /> 9. Lastly, I apply the finishing touches, including<br /> painting the white in the eyes and teeth.
