I always try to<br /> tell a story and make my audience laugh<br /> with every piece so hopefully you got a<br /> little chuckle out of this one. The video<br /> shows most of my process so I'm going to<br /> take this opportunity to tell some of the<br /> backstory.<br /> <br /> When Debbie told me they were doing<br /> an article about my friends Adam English<br /> and Eric Goodwin and their music, I was<br /> so excited. Adam trained me to draw<br /> caricatures way back in 2003 and without<br /> him my life would be completely different.<br /> Probably better but, still, I owe him. I also<br /> had the pleasure of working and living<br /> with Eric in San Diego. His work melts my<br /> brain and his coloring techniques light my<br /> eyes with technicolor flames. He's cool.<br /> <br /> With the Pokemon Go! craze in full effect<br /> I couldn't think of anything more topical<br /> and fun to draw and I figured it was a cool<br /> opportunity to put a bunch of my friends<br /> into the mix. Adam is Lickitung and Eric<br /> is Psyduck, if you're unfamiliar with the<br /> whole Pokemon thing (I was too!). Beau<br /> Hufford, Sakiko 'Satsu' Ushioda, Nate Kap,<br /> Brian Oakes and Bob Camp (not a personal<br /> friend, but a personal hero!) make<br /> up the other Pokemon. I share most of<br /> my ideas with Beau and he always makes<br /> them better and six times funnier. It was<br /> his idea to have everyone on their phones<br /> and completely ignoring all the action<br /> going on.<br /> <br /> Behind them is the rest of the Buffalo caricature<br /> crew as the Pokemon catcher people:<br /> Bill Gallagher, Myself, and Rob Dumo.<br /> I was so lucky to grow up in Buffalo and<br /> learn from a bunch of incredible world<br /> class caricature artists. I've worked for all of them and they will all tell you how<br /> great an employee I am; always on time.<br /> <br /> Finally, to the left, is &quot;team Rocket&quot; of<br /> Stacy Pierce, Matt Zitman, and Sean<br /> Favre who, besides inspiring me, have become<br /> great friends and always make me<br /> laugh. Conventions are exactly 3.4 times<br /> more fun with them around... Except for<br /> Matt.<br /> <br /> This is my first completely digital piece.<br /> I originally planned to redo the entire thing in watercolor after sketching it out<br /> digitally, but I've been really enjoying<br /> drawing on my iPad Pro and thought<br /> what better time to jump in head first<br /> and do something I've never done before<br /> than with the cover of Exaggerated<br /> Features!
