At Eindhoven in the Netherlands
you will find The Bergen, an area
with various small shops, restaurants,
bars, etc. For the past four years
during the last weekend of August, this
area has transformed into a typical
French quarter: Montmartre in Paris.
This year, 40 portrait artists, including
many ISCA members, came from all
over Europe (Hungary, Ireland, Portugal,
Spain, United Kingdom, Belgium
and, of course,the Netherlands) to be a
part of this unique festival!
With help from sponsors and from some
of the budget of the local authority and
Retailers Association, we were able to
provide a small fee to the artists and
musicians and pay for promotion and
equipment for the day.

The organization partner Company
Comics (with the help of EnProfil and a
lot of volunteers) wanted to organize an
event for entrepreneurs of the area, the
residents, the public, but not least for
the artists!

We started the night before with a little
pre-party, with food and drinks and
French music.

Then on August 31, between noon and
5pm, the artists were spread out over
the Kleine Berg, Bergstraat and Wilhelminaplein
(streets in the area), sitting
in small groups, drawing portraits or
caricatures of the public. All for free!
There was also a lot of entertainment,
musicians, a French duo with accordion,
a chansonnier (singer), local troubadours
and also some street theater.
All artists had one hour of free time to
move around, see what colleagues were
doing, have some fun and enjoy the
event themselves.

Afterwards, at one of the sponsor
restaurants, there was a dinner for all
artists, where they could meet, share
their experiences, plan visits to each
other and make plans to come back
next year.

In 2015, the organization will have a
lustrum (our five-year anniversary.)
Most artists already confirmed their
appearance, and if our budget will allow
it, we will be able to invite even more
artists than this year.

Since it will be a lustrum, we will try to
make it a special edition with something
extra, both for the artists and the public.
