Article Transcript

Here it is: the pre-convention issue. The one you have been waiting for! Lots to cover in these 3o or so pages.

WHERE TO STAY: EDITOR’S PICK If you have any questions about the hotel, you can check out their website at www.guesthousegraceland. com. Even though the discounted rooms are no longer available, check out the ISCAmembers Facebook page to see if anyone is looking for a roommate. You never know! I always recommend staying at the same hotel that hosts the convention. Even if you are tempted to stay at one nearby because it is less expensive or they are sold out, you will miss out on so much! I know from firsthand experience. Do what you can to stay onsite. And if you need any more convincing, here is a big one: free airport shuttle! Yes, the hotel has a shuttle that will whisk you from baggage claim to the luxurious Guest House at Graceland. You can find more info about the shuttle on page 24.

YOUR HOMEWORK: TIME TO VOTE! Be sure to check out all the nominees for this year’s election of Board of Directors. We have had 10 wonderful members step up and run. Be sure to review all of their nominee speeches starting on page 12. Nearby, you will find the ballot. In order for your ballot to qualify, you MUST choose four members by placing an X in the appropriate box. Any ballots that have fewer or more than four people chosen will be ineligible. You also must sign and print your name for the ballot to be counted. You may send it in before the November 13 deadline or bring it to the convention and deliver it in person. Make sure your voice is heard! Those on the board will help plan the next convention and all the things that go on (like contests and announcements on social media) before then.

PLANNING FOR THE WEEK To help plan your week, we have a copy of the schedule, brief descriptions of all the seminars and an article of all the fun and interesting things to explore in Memphis. There is a lot more to do than just listen to country music and learn about Elvis. Get to know our Guest of Honor a little bit better with my interview starting on page 16. We also have the usual convention competition rules and procedures that will be enforced starting on page 6.

OTHER STUFF Though this issue is mostly convention- related, we finally have an interview with board member Manny Avetisyan about his widely popular book and an article about former board member Dan Almariei and how caricature helped him start a new life.
