Meet Your Nominees
Now is the time to VOTE for the 2019-2020 Board of Directors! This year we have ten nominees. Their nomination speeches are shown in alphabetical order and cover four pages, so make sure to review them all before making your decisions. The ballot can be found inserted in this issue and can be mailed or brought to the convention. Mailed ballots must arrive by November 13, 2019. Good luck to all of our nominees!
Manny Avetisyan
It’s been a great first year on the ISCA board! I’m excited to be a part of bringing you all a convention to remember! New award categories, prolific guest speakers, and exciting workshops. Lots of good changes to make the convention more rewarding and fun. I’m excited to continue being part of a fantastic group of passionate people who love the organization and want to see it grow and flourish.
ISCA has changed my life. Starting out in caricature back in 2000, I could never dream that one day I’d be meeting and drawing with my heroes and having a chance to attend seminars with legends and compete against the best in the world! The conventions are truly life changing, and the community is a great source of encouragement and growth! The conventions have offered me an opportunity to test my skills against fellow artists and I have been privileged to win many awards, including a Silver and Gold Nosey, which opened up the way for me to create The Ultimate Guide to Modern Live Caricature. I know what the conventions have meant to me, hence I hope to continue serving the caricature community and keep bringing you all inspiring guest speakers and seminars for years to come!

Hello fellow caricature enthusiasts,
My name is Ben Bloss and I am running for a second term on the ISCA board of directors. I have been doing caricatures professionally for the past 15 years and have been a member of this fine organization for 12 years and counting. I’ve worked in several theme parks, busked in downtown areas, and traveled these United States working the fair circuit. Being a caricature artist is the best version of me.
cannot say enough to express how much I love this art form, and it blows me away to know that there are so many talented people around the world who are just as ecstatic about silly faces as I am. That being said, I’d like to be one of the lucky people tasked with fueling the fire that keeps the engines of this ever-growing community going. I only wish to continue to share my passion and work hard alongside of all of you to be the best caricature artists we can be. Thank you again for considering me for re-election.

Hi, ISCA family! Tommytoons here! I am humbled to have been nominated to be a Board Member. I have been doing Caricatures for over 30 years. I will always be a Caricature Artist and an artist of all types of art. I’m originally from Arizona and came to California in 1988 to live a dream. I did caricatures in Venice Beach on weekends and eventually started working for talent agencies for events. I studied at Pasadena Art Center and met other Caricature Artists there and studied under one of Disneyland’s original caricature artists. It’s been a natural progression throughout the years, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given in the process of developing, creating, and growing in this art form I hold dear to my heart.
As a newer member to ISCA, I come eager to be more involved and I look forward to helping in any way needed.
When I went to my first ISCA convention, I brought my airbrush. I felt stupid walking in, but everyone was very cool and friendly. Someone even said, I should have brought mine! I learned a lot and it was very humbling. So much talent! I would love to serve on the board and help ISCA grow!!

Dear ISCA friends and family — I look forward to continue serving on the Board of Directors along with our new and returning board members. It would be my honor to lead the charge and one day be able to hand over the reins to this talented, energetic, and inspiring group of artists. I’m always striving to improve the ISCA convention experience as well as the internal workings of the organization. My priorities going into the next year include offering more to members who volunteer their time to the organization, focusing on more interactive workshops at the convention, and expanding the scope of the ISCA Hall of Fame. Aside from that, I’m always striving to recruit and retain members! I’m always looking for new ways to improve ISCA, and my door will always be open.

Hello, talented artists of ISCA!
I am truly humbled for your board nomination once again. We have to say, it has been amazing to see how the board has improved the already great ISCA convention. I cannot wait to be a part of that. Much excitement builds when social media makes a world of difference in our artistic pursuits by improving the way we as artists learn, share, connect, and stay inspired and positive.
With this being said, I look forward to working with the current board to bring more helpful tips for us all to stay motivated and to have fun doing art! Hope you all help me show you what I have in store.

Dear ISCA Members,
I greatly appreciate the nomination for the position of board member for our organization. Prior to my foray into caricature, I was an animator, a public school educator for over 15 years, a founder of an art school, and an executive director of a nonprofit organization. I am currently the business co-owner of The Caricature Entertainment. I would like to use the skills gained during my time in education and the nonprofit sector to help ISCA reach its mission objectives. Some of my personal achievements in my professional capacity that I can share with the board are as follows: Goal-setting and strategic planning skills, value as a strategic adviser, ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary group, industry expertise, financial acumen, demonstrated problem-solving abilities, fundraising abilities, public/community relations and experience as a spokesperson. I am confident that these qualities, together with my commitment to work, will be beneficial to growing this organization’s valuable assets for the artists and the community it serves. I look forward to our conversations.

Hello, fellow ISCAtarians. I would first like to say thank you for nominating me to be a part of this fantastic group of people who will become, or continue to be, your board. What an honor.
I have been drawing caricatures since 1989, but it wasn’t until 2012 that I truly began to grow and expand my talents in great part because of ISCA and its members. To discover such amazing talent and creativity and then be a part of it is something so many artists hunger for. I have watched our team reach out in fresh and creative ways to new members as well as challenging those of us who have been walking this path for some time. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
I don’t believe I will ever reach a place where I have it all figured out when it comes to caricature, I still have much to learn but, having been part of a successful caricature business for the past 20 years, I have much to share as well. I would be honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the other members of our board to continue to grow in new and exciting ways.

Hello, ISCA! Like many of you, my roots in caricature began with drawing at amusement parks and fairs across the country then transitioned into gigs and studio work. Literally for over half my life, the art form of caricature has continued to challenge me, inspire me and bring me great joy. Since 2006, I’ve been a member and advocate of ISCA and have had the privilege of feeling like part of one big family. I am in awe of your skills and creativity on a daily basis.
In addition to my love for caricature, I am an artist and educator who wears many hats. My roles as a business partner, a public artist, a collaborator, a fabricator and designer, an instructor and technician have given me years of experience managing large projects that involve diverse personalities, rigid timelines, complicated logistics and detailed budgets. I enjoy working hard, being highly accountable and completing multiple tasks with efficiency, pride and care.
I am excited about the opportunity to learn from the current board and am confident that my own skills and experiences can positively contribute to the work it takes to help run ISCA. I am ready to step up my commitment to serve a group that is such a positive part of my life. Thank you for your consideration!

Hello, everyone. My name is Christopher Tamlyn and I proudly accept my nomination for the 2020 ISCA Board of Directors. My mission as a first-year board member is to engage our community in a way that keeps us feeling as close together year-round as we feel when we attend the annual convention.
Together, ISCA’s members have built amazing achievements and have set the organization up for many future successes. So I ask you: How do we define success for the organization? What are our goals? What can we do besides the convention that lets the world know we are here? How does ISCA help YOU live up to YOUR potential, both creatively and professionally? These questions are not rhetorical. The answers give us information on how we constantly improve the value of your membership.
I believe ISCA can become a resource that no caricaturist can afford to NOT be a member of. I have many ideas to bring to the table, plus the time and experience to help us continue to achieve great things. I’ve been in caricature for over two decades. I’ve run teams that arrange conventions attended by thousands of people. I’ve set up knowledge bases and resources for university staff and students. I would like to use those skills to help our organization realize every bit of potential it has. Thank you for the opportunity to do so.

First, I would like to say thanks for voting me onto the board last year! I’ve learned a lot about how our organization runs and how much work it takes to make our conventions happen. Second, I need to strongly suggest that you use one of your four votes for Tom Faraci. He cares so deeply about ISCA and its members and will be a FANTASTIC president next year. Third, it’s been a real pleasure running the ISCA Members Facebook Contest. I will gladly continue to run it whether I’m re-elected to the board or not, but to be clear, I would very much like to be on the board again! I feel like I spent most of my time and energy this year just figuring out how this all works, so I’d love to have the opportunity to really dive in and get my hands dirtier next year. Fourth, and I think most important, I love you all, you are the best people on Earth, and I can’t wait to say hello and hand you your T-shirt in Memphis!
