'''Paste Article Transcript ===== Introduction=====Along with drawing caricatures, window painting is oneof my passions. Over the past 30+ years, I have beenperfecting my skills splashing color and adding characterto business windows around the country. Along the way, Ihave picked up other skill sets and incorporated them intomy window designs. As a caricature artist, I enjoy capturingthe personalities of my subjects, so I figured why not usethis ability on my window painting. Over the years I havemanaged to create my own unique style as every artist strivesto do. Many artists have shown an interest in learning mywindow painting technique. Well, I am here today to share thebasics of how it’s done, including how I add my own uniquepersonality to my characters to make people smile when theysee my finished window paintings.===== Supplies =====I was always taught in order to do ajob properly you must first have thecorrect tools and knowledge of howto use them. Here'''is a list of what Iuse to paint windows.* A couple of tarps. One to lay on theground under window and one tolay under your paints. It keeps thingsclean. This can be a messy job. I havefailed to do this in the past and youcan see the results on the tailgate ofmy truck.* 3” sponge rollers (Larger for hugeshowroom windows)* 1” & 2” sponge brushes (I cut themdown when I need thinner line.)* Liner paint brushes (Used mainly fordetail on faces)* Several small paint pans* 4” scraper blade with handle (usedto scrape large areas of paint off ofwindows) I call this my eraser.* Small hand-held 2” scraper blade(Used for cleaning up lines and drips)* 1” Masking tape (for taping offstraight lines for lettering and cleanedges)* Scissors (used mostly to cut spongebrushes smaller)* Jug of fresh water (for thinning paint)* Bucket of water (to clean brushes)* Paper towels* Box of small sandwich baggies (usedto place wet rollers with differentcolors in for reuse)* China marker (used if you want topre-sketch design on window)* Receipt book (when collecting money)* Paint: I use three kinds of paint:Ceiling Bright White, acrylic flathouse paint, Day Glo fluorescentpaint. I prefer Sherwin-Williamspaint. If you ask your paint supplier, sometimes you can get discountedpaint that has been mixed wrong ordiscontinued. Asking the right personcould save you money.* Plastic tubs work great to storegallon containers of paint as youtravel to each job.* I change out color selections forseasons, but always carry basic colorssuch as white, black, blue, red, yellow, and green.* My Day Glo colors I keep in stock areRocket Red, Saturn Yellow, BrightGreen, and Hot Pink.* It is best to get a premixed blackpaint for the darkest pigment. Blackthat is mixed at paint stores is neverdark enough. It usually has more ofa gray tone on windows. Sherwin-Williams carries gallons of premixedblack that work well for me.
